So I got this e-mail today and just loved it. This blog is in no way intended to offend anyone. It is just my thoughts on this particular matter than I am sort of venting my frustrations about...
Lately, it seems to me like religion has been being portrayed by the media as "organizations for those who can't think for themselves." That those of us that are religious are constantly having to defend ourselves. Especially Christians (that's just my opinion though.)
The whole take God out of the government and our schools is ridiculous to me and it kinda irritates me a bit. Just a bit, though. :o) Especially because that is what this country was founded on. Maybe I'm just a stickler for tradition and respect, but being "one nation under God" stays because our founding fathers were Christian and came here so they could worship God how ever they wanted and keeping it that way is a matter of respecting the founders, even if you don't believe in God.
I just think it's all about the respect. I don't NOT like someone because they're aethist, but I will respect that that's what they believe. I am making that perfectly clear right now. But when stunts like this are pulled saying "Christians or Jews (or whatever religion) are discriminating cuz... blah blah blah..." No. That's when I won't sit back.
Oh goodness... So lately in church, we've been having a lot of 'love thy neighbor,' 'be a good example,' 'turn the other cheek' lessons. Shane & I were talking with my in-lwas yesterday and I guess they're trying to prepare us for this coming Gen. Conference. Supposedly there's going to be like 200,000+ protesters there because of the whole Prop 8, 102, & 2 issues. That right there is something I've tried to "turn the other cheek" about but it really really bugs me. No, we don't hate you because you're gay, BUT that decision would've affected the things I very strongly believe- so go ahead and pickott us at our church services. And we're the bigots and the haters. I think the thing about this whole ordeal is the simple fact that the vote is being reconsidered. It's called democracy- that's how it goes! I can guarantee you if the vote had gone the other way, there would have been no reconsidering to over-turn it.
Basically, the whole having to constantly stand up and fight for what we believe and what has been is just exhausting! BUT I will gladly do it because that is how much I love my God and what I believe in. It is who I am.
Anyway... Here's the e-mail!:o)
FLORIDA COURT SETS ATHEIST HOLY DAY!
In Florida, an atheist created a case against the upcoming Easter & Passover holy days. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against Christians, Jews and observances of their holy days.
The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized days. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel declaring, "Case dismissed!"
The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas and Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah. Yet my client and all other aethists have no such holidays."
The judge leaned forward in his chair saying. "But you do. Your client, counsel, is woefully ignorant."
The lawyer said, "Your honor, we are unaware of any special observance or holiday for aethists."
The judge said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1 states: 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.
You gotta love a Judge that knows his scripture!
